10 New Yorkers selected in five categories
Contactos USA, Inc, honors 24 Colombian-Americans with the 2007 Colombian Exterior Excellence Award for their contributions to their professions and society. The event was held at Sardi's Restaurant, New York, Friday May 11. Co-owner of Sardi’s, Max Klimavicious, and President of Contactos USA, Nancy Pulecio, will host the program.
Contactos selected individuals based on their professional performance, community leadership, commitment, uprightness, and advancement of Colombian-Americans in the US. The categories include THE ARTS, science, leadership, entrepreneurship, and SPORTS. Ten New Yorkers in FIVE of these areas were nominated by members of the community and after an appropriate research; they were selected to receive the award.
Gabby Chaves is honored in Sports Excellence by Ambassador of Colombia, Carolina Barco.
The proceeds of the gala event benefit the “Sueños Sin Fronteras” program, which was created in 2006 to help poor, abandoned children in Colombia. Last year, 15 children, ages 7 to 13, were selected to travel to the US to visit Walt Disney World and Miami. In addition, the children participated in motivational seminars and received gifts and educational funds. This year, 15 children will be selected in November.
This year 2007 celebration, is honored with the presence of the Ambassador of Colombia, Carolina Barco: among other members of the US-Colombian Diplomatic Corp. Dr Juan Esteban Orduz, general Manager of the National Federation of coffee growers of Colombia, and his wife will be the honorary chairpersons for the gala.
