Autodromo de Tocancipa, Bogota Colombia - During the afternoon of Saturday, September 23rd, at the Autodromo of Tocancipa, the screaming wheels of the Formulas Renault Tulia 17 took the green flag for a 20 lap race battle.
The 14 year old youngster, Gabby Chaves, who was the pole sitter kept his position after turn one and began to set the pace of the race to an unbeatable rhythm of 3 to 5 tenths faster than the second place, at the end when Gabby raised his arm at the checker flag. He had an impressive 10 seconds lead over the second driver.
Gabby becomes the youngest driver in history to win a race under the Federacion Colombiana de Automovilismo and followed the winning steps of his mother who was the first woman in Colombian history to win a race under the same Federation.
Gabby also set the fastest lap time so far for this Formula at this track, with a 1’11.32” during the race. Gabby did not have much time to celebrate his victory since shortly after this race he had to board a Van Damen prototype to compete in the Petrobras 3 hours endurance race that did not end up to well after his prototype’s engine seized for an oil leak after 45 minutes into the race.
