On the last race weekend that would crown the Regional Eastern Series champion the battle between the only two contenders with a chance to take the title, Gabby Chaves and Jordan Taylor, was predicted to be once again a fierce show. After the two official practices where each driver topped the charts in one occasion we knew this was going to be a close race.
During a rainy day in qualifying, Gabby managed to take the pole by an impressive 1.4 seconds gap on his second opponent, Jordan, and in both races Gabby took the lead and never looked back to bring two solid victories home. Chaves did all he could do by winning both races, but Jordan also did exactly what he had to do to win the championship. By finishing second to Chaves in both races. At the end Gabby fell short 22 points to take the championship and had to settle as the title runner up.
Nevertheless Gabby did not win the championship he had an excellent season topping the charts with the most victories (5), most podiums (9) and most lead laps of the season.
