During this weekend race rounds 10, 11& 12 took place at North America’s fastest road course, the 4.048 miles track challenged the young drivers to the max.
The young Colombian driver despite having engine problems during his two qualifying sessions that put him on 9th and 8th starting positions, managed to reach the leaders in the last two races. After replacing his engine for the two final races Gabby started to make his way through the racing field to connect with the lead pack finishing in a fourth place. Gabby sets the fastest lap of the race in his effort to reach the leaders and was in a fierce battle for 3rd and 2nd position. Gabby crossed the finish line in fourth place.
This was an important race weekend for Gabby Chaves since he was able to overcome the engine and set-up problems of his car and after being 1.5 seconds behind the lead pace, he ended up being the fastest car of the race. He also learned a great deal in working with his team mates and obtained the best results for the Autotecnica racing team in all of the three races.
With his appearance as a guest driver in North America Gabby continues his preparation of his first year in BMW and for his next event in Singapore on September 28-29, and most important of all, to prepare for the 2009 season.
